THE GRAND SPORT PROJECT

A 2027 Corvette Grand Sport, in house. This is the running record of what we do to it and what we find out.

WHY WE HAVE IT

Chevrolet revealed the 2027 Grand Sport on March 26, 2026. We went after one the same week.

The reason is the engine.

The LS6 is not a revised LT2. It is a new architecture, and that means nothing carries over. No calibration baseline. No parts shelf. No known failure points. Everything a shop thinks it knows about the current car stops being useful the moment the LS6 shows up on the lift.

Somebody has to do that work first. We would rather it be us, on our car, than on a client's.

So this one stays in house. Every change gets made here, tested here, and either proven or thrown out here. What eventually goes on a client's Grand Sport is something we have already run, broken, fixed, and run again.

THE ENGINE

535 horsepower. 520 lb-ft. Naturally aspirated.

409 cubic inches (6.7 liters) of sixth generation Small Block. Cam in block, two valves per cylinder, 4.4 inch bore spacing, the same layout that has been the backbone of this platform for decades. 13.0:1 compression, the highest Chevrolet has ever run in a Corvette V8. 100mm stroke. Tunnel ram intake with high velocity ports. Port and direct injection running together. A continuously variable oil pump built for sustained load.

520 lb-ft is the most torque any naturally aspirated V8 has made in a standard Corvette. No turbos. No supercharger. No electric motor filling in the gaps.

That last part matters for what we do. A naturally aspirated engine with this much compression and this much port velocity responds to airflow and calibration in ways a boosted engine does not. There is real work to be found here, and very little of it has been done yet.

Eight speed dual clutch behind it. Z06 wide body chassis under it. Rear wheel drive.

THE CAR AS ORDERED

2027 Corvette Grand Sport Convertible, 2LT

We asked what you wanted to see and got a few hundred answers. We went with the rear drive Grand Sport over the Grand Sport X on purpose. The X is a genuinely fast car, but the electric front unit sits between us and a clean read on what the LS6 is doing by itself. Baseline work needs the simpler car.

WHAT WE HAVE DONE SO FAR

Forgeline carbon fiber wheels. The factory wheel is fine. It is also heavy, and rotating mass is the cheapest performance you will ever buy back. Carbon barrels take real weight off the outside diameter of the wheel, which is exactly where it costs you the most in acceleration, braking, and turn in.

Z06 high wing spoiler. The Grand Sport already carries the Z06 body. The wing finishes the aero package the chassis was designed around.

Ride height drop. Lower center of gravity, less body movement, better use of the Magnetic Ride hardware that is already on the car.

Seat time. Before any of the calibration work starts, the car needs to be driven, logged, and understood in stock form. That has been the priority.

FIRST NUMBERS

We took it to Shift-Sector's Indy Airstrip Attack and ran 140 mph on the stock drivetrain.

That number is not the point. The baseline is the point. Every change we make from here gets measured against a run we already have data on, in conditions we recorded, with an engine nobody has touched.

You cannot prove a gain if you never established the starting line.

WHAT'S NEXT

The list is long and the order is deliberate. Datalogging and stock calibration mapping first, then airflow, then everything that follows.

We are not going to announce a timeline for it. The work takes what it takes.

Ordered

Chevrolet revealed the Grand Sport and the new LS6 on March 26. We put in an order and asked our audience two questions: which version, and what color. The answers ran into the hundreds.

AUGUST 2026

Delivery

The car arrived from George Matick Chevrolet in Redford, Michigan. 2027 Grand Sport Convertible, 2LT, Z52, Admiral Blue Metallic, carbon ceramics with blue calipers.

Wheels, wing, and ride height

Forgeline carbon fiber wheels fitted. Z06 high wing spoiler installed. Ride height dropped.

140 mph on the stock drivetrain. Baseline established.

AUGUST 2026

Woodward

The car went north for the Woodward Dream Cruise. A week on public roads, in traffic, in August heat, is a different kind of data than a dyno pull and it is worth having early.
